AIB’s commitment to sustainability and the environment is highlighted in their latest 2022 Sustainability Report.
The bank has increased its green lending by 65%, reaching €3.3 billion during the year, which accounts for 26% of overall new lending.
This includes green mortgages, which made up 28% of AIB’s mortgage lending in Ireland in 2022.
AIB’s chief sustainability and corporate affairs officer, Mary Whitelaw, notes that the International Monetary Fund has estimated that it will cost up to €20 billion annually to fund Ireland’s transition to a zero-carbon economy by 2030.
With this in mind, AIB has set a clear ambition for 70% of their new lending to be green or transition by 2030, and aims to be a driving force for the sustainability agenda in Ireland, supporting customers and communities to make the transition to a low carbon economy…
